Blushing Bride

Kevin and I had a fantastic weekend in Calgary!  We had the pleasure of attending my beautiful cousin's wedding to her Fireman husband :)

Shauna and Paul have been together for over 4 years, so he's had ample opportunity to know what he was in for.  They make an absolutely stunning couple who are some of the funnest people to be around--not to mention all their friends and family!

Now they decided to have an adult event, giving us the opportunity to have some time away from little-stinker-butt-beauty-queen-tantrum-thrower-silly-pants-boo.  Lucky for us we have an amazing S.I.L. who warmly and excitedly welcomed her for her very first sleep over!  Of course my brother and all six of her cousins were happy about this too ;)

Kevin and I met Auntie Charissa and Cousin Raegyn in Blackfalds to make the transaction.  After that, we dropped Sir Sarge at the kennel and came back home to get ready.  Got all pretty and handsome and set out on the open road to get to Calgary's Canada Olympic Park for a beautiful summer day outside wedding ceremony at 2.

Ready to party...

We arrived with plenty of time to visit a little and get the perfect seat.  We also had 2 full bobsleds go speeding by us!  They were getting married in the middle of this bobsled ring...too cool.  There was also a classic car show happening just down the hill.  Lucky nothing loud or fast or crazy happened for the exchange of vows; it was perfect ♥

The groomsmen and bridesmaids...

The stunning couple...

Absolutely, positively without a doubt some of my FAVOURITE people in the entire wide world. This is the Dorn Family. My Uncle Rob (everyone should have one like mine), my Godmother and beautiful-kind-positive-hilarious Aunt Babette, and cousins Shane and Shauna who follow so closely in their parents footsteps of humility, hospitality, humour and pure affection and passion for life and love--people you ALWAYS love being around. Their attitudes are contagious, infectious, amazing!

The ceremony was short and perfect.  The wedding party was off to take pictures so Kevin and I skedaddled over to the hotel to check in.  I wanted a nap, but no dice.  We met my folks downstairs for a beverage in the bar instead.

Around 5 we headed back over the the Olympic Park to where the reception was to be held.  Can you believe little ol' me got to enjoy Canapes and Tray Served Champagne??  What is this?  Well this is what the little pamphlet told me I was eating...

In-house smoked salmon creme fraiche served on rye
Baby brocconcini and cherry tomato lollipop
Beef filet roulade rolled with caramelized onion, blue cheese, and rocket greens
Buffalo slider with maple glazed bacon, blackberry ketchup and brie

Ummmm...yum and swanky!  Soooooo goooooood.

Here are a few snaps.  If they're blurry it's because I used my IPhone.  We checked the charge on the camera before leaving Red Deer and it said 3/4.  Figured we were good, right?  Nope.  The camera died just as I turned it on to take pictures of the bridal party at the ceremony...  Arg!!  Thanks to Cheryl, my cousin Shane's wonderful fiancee for nabbing me this pictures so I could blog :)

Shane and Cheryl...aren't they adorable?

Shauna and I...

Aunt Babette and Paul...welcome to the family!

The super cool large cupcake wedding cake...Shauna is a flight attendant for West Jet and Paul is a Firefighter in Calgary...so cute and perfectly fitting...

Oh my...

Parents of the bride...then and now...sigh...still so awesome!

Let me tell you, this wedding left me in tears a few times.  The kindness and love this family shows for each other is truly breathtaking.  They've done it right, they're doing it right.  Of course I'm sure they have their tensions and eye rolls and arguments like no others, but on a day when it matters it all comes together.  I hold these people with very high regard and admiration.  I love them so very much and my own husband has said numerous times, "Everyone should have an Uncle Rob" and "They're just great people" and "I'm so glad I know them".  Couldn't agree more.  I wish them all happiness until the end of forever. ♥

P/S...Nola did pretty darn good her for her first sleep over.  She saved ALL her tantrums for when she saw me again :)

The Last Time You Said My Name

The last time you said my name was yesterday. I had no idea that would be the last time I heard you say Jeanette... It seems surreal to have already lost one of our parents. This evening, my husbands mother Suzanne, died of cancer. We found out she was sick on April 20th. She went to the hospital for what seemed to be gallbladder issues only to discover there was more. Suzanne chose to go home and process the information. She decided not to pursue treatment. 69 days later we have lost her. She was 67. As I have participated in this dying process, there have been many emotions. So many memories and thoughts surface. Suzanne and I didn't get along very well and that isn't a secret. We were very different women connected to a man we love(d) dearly. Although we had difficulty relating and often times irritated and annoyed each other, I am amazed at how it can all melt away at the end. The fights, misunderstandings, and even anger, is softened. Not forgotten, but the heart is

Calgary Visit @ 27 weeks

I think it's going to be a hold-your-breath kind of week. Baby girls heart beat was at about 53 today.  55 is the danger zone cut off.  It kind of stumped Kevin and I.  The ultrasound tech was super nice and, of course, they don't really know what sort of news they're giving us when they tell us the heart rate.  They don't know why we're there, but we went a little quiet when she said.  I wasn't really expecting that. Today Kevin and I decided to get a disc of pictures of our sweetheart.  She was having a party today while they were trying to take pictures, wiggling and bouncing. She's about 2 1/4 pounds. Her feet measure about 5.4 cm. So with the lower rate, the pediatric cardiologist (the amazing Dr. Fruitman) came into the room immediately to have a look for herself and we had the consult right away.  She asked me how things had been and I told her about this past week.  I took a hard fall on the ice with Nola in my arms and suffered a terrib

Hard to say/show thank-you

It never ceases to amaze (and hurt) me just how difficult it is for people to say "thank-you". I realize it is the Age of Entitlement and everyday etiquette/courtesies are nearly unheard of, but I for one am getting sick of it.  And if you're close to me, you know I've been getting sick of it for quite some time! I have an uncanny ability to remember people's birthdays.  I don't find it hard to write it on the calendar I look at all the time.  I don't find it hard to snag a card while I'm on one of my quick shopping tours.  It's even easier to stick a stamp on it considering I keep a roll in the drawer, and there is a mail box on nearly every corner. I work hard to remember everyone with a Christmas card.  I don't find it too much to sit down for one hour and sign a bunch of cards with a little good will showing the people in my life that I think they're important and I wish the best for them. Funny enough, it doesn't come back
